Urgent Care Center has spa-like ambience
Pam Witmer, THE NEWS PRESS
On opening day on Wednesday,
July 19, Dr.
Larry Hobbs took me on a tour of the new Urgent Care Center
of SW Florida at Corkscrew Road and Three Oaks Parkway in
Estero. The brand-new facilities, located in that
beige-and-cocoa-colored two-story building on the east side
of Three Oaks, are the first phase of a whole complex of
doctors’ offices, lab services and urgent care. All 19
doctors in the 45,000-square-foot complex are partners in
the business venture. Hobbs, director of the
6,000-square-foot urgent care portion of the building, took
me through the facilities and pointed out the high-tech
features. But before I get to that part, let’s talk first
impressions.
With pistachio green walls, hospital-grade linoleum that
looks like trendy bamboo flooring, and glass wall vases with
eye-catching silk flowers, it feels more like entering a
health spa than a medical waiting room.
One area of the waiting room has a big-screen plasma
television on the wall. But Hobbs said there’s no CNN or
daytime television in his waiting room. The television is
hooked up to a DVD player showing Johnny Carson and Lucille
Ball shows to keep a little humor going while waiting.
For those who prefer something a little more peaceful,
around the corner from the receptionist, a gentle wall of
water cascades down a glass window with a container of rocks
at its base. Very Zen like.
Medical records will all be kept electronically.
Hobbs showed the new digital X-ray machine that allows the
urgent care staff to e-mail X-rays to other medical
facilities for consultation.
And, Hobbs said, patients will be sent home with a copy of
their X-rays on a computer disk for their own records, or to
share with other doctors as needed.
With nine beds, Hobbs said the facility is equipped to
handle up to 100 patients a day.
